I was at a children's party with my 2 daughters at past 5 pm today when we noticed the skies suddenly turned dark...a huge, huge sand storm is slowly enveloping Kuwait!...
Just like last year, at about the same period..only it was early morning then...and just like last year, I am also not in a good location to videotape the event....unlucky me!..
Here are some videos I gathered from the lucky ones...(Credits to all the owners/original uploaders of the videos featured below)
But I am still lucky to be able to get out of there with my 2 girls, pick up my wife from work, drive through the storm and get home safe..thank God!

22. Meet someone famous
Last January, on my 39th birthday, I wrote a list of the 40 things I want to do or accomplish before I turn 40. This is number 22 from that list.
Last weekend, the Light Benders Photography Group (LB/PG) organized a 2-day photo shoot featuring the avant-garde creations of the one and only Rocky Gathercole, a world-class Filipino designer based in Dubai.
Fresh from his successful stint in the recently concluded Miami Fashion Week 2011, Rocky stopped by Kuwait for the weekend event. (You can find photos of Rocky's creations including his interview for the Metro Velvet here.)
We- photographers, make-up artists and models alike- were overwhelmed and inspired not only by the presence of Rocky but also by his amazing designs and concepts..Suffice to say it's a tall order to give justice to his genius through our photographs.
Some of the photos from the event:
(More photos will be posted soon)
At the end, it was such a rewarding experience to be able to have this kind of opportunity- to have meet someone as famous and yet so humble and down-to-earth as Rocky.. We can't thank him enough for his time off his busy schedule and I look forward again for the next big event with him..hopefully soon!

35. Have my first real photoshoot
Last January, on my 39th birthday, I wrote a list of the 40 things I want to do or accomplish before I turn 40. This is number 35 from that list.
By real I mean with someone else other than my immediate family members posing in front of my camera, fully made-up, dressed up, set on location..the works!
They say the first 10,000 photos off your camera are your worst and it actually holds true for me. After almost a year with my DSLR, I felt that I am not making any significant progress with my skills as a photographer. I used to live a solitary life as a photographer, depending solely on online tutorials and the like, but I realized that is not enough.
So this year, I made a resolve that I will try to develop/ enhance my photography..first step is to come out of my shell and mingle with other camera enthusiasts..
The opportunity came when I was invited to attend a photo shoot last Feb. 25 with the newly formed Light Benders Photography Group in Kuwait.. The event was the Vol dela Fantaisie ( Flight of Fantasy) featuring the creations of Kuwait-based Filipino designer Kenneth Harion..I was both excited and hesitant to join at first but at the end, it turned out to be an eye-opener of sort.
I learned a lot in that one day, my first real photo shoot.. and since then I saw myself getting more motivated and interested each day.

Japan- Before and After Earthquake
I found these amazing satellite images from the NY Times website showing a side-by-side comparison of various areas in Japan hit by the devastating earthquake and tsunami last Friday. Move the slider in each photos to view the before and after comparison.
Also, Google prepared and updated their resources related to the disaster including various satellite images, like the one below, available for viewing and for download here.

Ang Misteryo ng Nawawalang French Fries
The Mystery of the Missing French Fries |
One day, a group of friends decided to eat at McDonald's. They eat and chat happily. While Jamie sits quietly in the corner, thinking " How can I finish my burger?" |
As time passes by, they continued to have fun. They did not notice one more french fries remained. And Princie secretly took it. " This is mine hehehe". |

Road Scenes: How about "Rest in Peace?"
The New Spiderman
Ever since word of a "Spider-Man" reboot was announced, fans have been hungry for any scrap of info about the movie. How will this version differ from Sam Raimi’s hugely successful franchise? How will Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker stack up against Toby Maguire's? Today, we get an early look at the upcoming flick. Check out the pic below.
The photo, the first released from the movie, shows Parker in Spider-Man's iconic red and blue suit sans mask. His face has been scuffed up and his suit, which is more textured and less sculpted than in Spidey's previous incarnation, looks a bit worse for wear.
Garfield, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for his turn in “The Social Network,” admits to being daunted playing the legendary web-slinger.
"I see it as a massive challenge in many ways," he told Details magazine. "To make it authentic. To make the character live and breathe in a new way. The audience already has a relationship with many different incarnations of the character. I do, as well. I'm probably going to be the guy in the movie theater shouting abuse at myself. But I have to let that go. No turning back. And I wouldn't want to."
We'll have to wait until 2012 to see if Garfield manages to deliver the goods.

Nationalistic Nails
Seen at the Souk Mubarakiya ( Feb.26,2011) |
Kuwait is really in a patriotic mood these days because of the just-concluded National and Liberation Days celebrations...everywhere you can see the green, red, black and white--the national colors of Kuwait..there are flag-inspired dresses, there are flag-inspired masks...and yes, even flag-inspired fake nails..
